Inspiration…all in a days work

Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you have a ‘zone’ you go into at work that allows you to dig deep, find creative ideas and then it all flows. Or do you have strategic meetings with co workers and that is where you get your inspiration from.

Well, I work for myself, so inspiration is a HUGE thing on my checklist. Today i was fortunate enough to meet with Jazskimo Creative (http://www.jazskimocreative.com) who works in similar field that I do, however Jazskimo is located in Singapore. It was enlightening to meet with her and we bounced ideas off each other in respect to marketing and self employment ideas…also we discussed the self inspiration tools.

This week has been a huge week of inspiration for my business. I have met with new and existing clients, shared marketing ideas with people who have huge potential to grow their business, and kicked some personal goals also.

But when I don’t have scheduled meetings, or clients to phone and inspire, where do i find it. Ill tell you…

I research….head down and all systems go. I read articles, I find potential companies I know I can help, I make appointments with people and discuss the huge benefits that Social Media can have for their business, more importantly, how Popfizzle can help their business. Right there, I have found my own little blue sky, my very own pocket rocket of inspiration. And I can tell you right now…it works!

Tell me what works for you…perhaps this already has? ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year – 2014

Happy New Year everyone. I know I haven’t posted for months now, But I have been snowed under with work and need to make a conscious effort to keep my cyber/blogging network updated on all events. Once a month, at least, it will happen. There is a very legit reason though, I have been soaring businesses into the cyber world, so there is more and more people joining us. Which reminds me, I must update my portfolio…very soon for you all to see what i have been working on.

So I’m sure your busting for some new fun facts and also more reason for me to convince you to join Social Media for your business and more importantly, hire me as your Social Media Manager…..really, you didn’t think i’d plug my own business, well a new year, new me ๐Ÿ™‚

Think its not important to have your website user friendly? Think again, Smartphones is what we use most of the time now, look at this;ย Mobile now makes up the majority of email opens at 51%.

Not an apple fan? Still not convinced…check this out..25% of all emails are opened on an iPhone.ย The iPhone is still king.

Do you find yourself shutting down your email, then walking away with your phone only to check your emails on there again? I do. Clearly I make up some of 61% of webmail users open email on a mobile device.

I have said it so many times before. Use more pictures. Design flyers with statistics and adverts and make them vibrant and appealing to the eye, give your reader what they want. They want to see what you are selling, what you are discussing….With Outlook and Android securing the second and third spots in market share, upwards of one-third of your emails are likely opened with images disabled. That makes defensive design techniquesย like HTML text and alt text a must.

That should keep your mind ticking over for now, this should make you look through your website, see how you are going with whats ‘stale’ and what is appealing to the eye. Check your Social Media, have you crossed all your T’s and dotted the I’s? You know Popfizzle can give your Social Media Networks a once over Summer clean prepping you for the year, you never know, I may just have some sharp marketing ideas for you too ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year Everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

Social Media…is it easy?

Hand holding a Social Media 3d Sphere

Someone made comment that Social Media is ‘easy’ I laughed this off. But then i thought longer about this statement; Right….Social Media is easy, everyone can post on their newsfeed in Facebook (as most people associate social media to Facebook only) about how great their day is, how awful their weekend was, how wonderful life is….easy right, you type your thoughts and let the whole Social Media world know whats going on.

Social Media from a business sense…easy….arh I don’t think so. Clearly if its easy for you, you have nothing else to do with your time, absolutely nothing else to do…either that or you are not utilising the tools correctly, as there is nothing easy about this factor, otherwise why would their be people like myself, Social Media Managers. There is so much that goes into Social Media for a business. How often are you engaging with your fans? Are you covering all basis for all fans or just for one aspect of your business? Are you hash tagging? Are you using videos, on Instagram, you tube, loading them to Facebook? How do you engage your readers when you can see your stats are lowering and your loosing interest in them? What attracts your readers the most? Are all of your social media feeds linking back to your website? There is a small portion of aspects, if your managing all of the above, then you are doing swimmingly and no wonder its easy for you ๐Ÿ™‚

I would like to hear your feedback on this topic, how do you feel with your business? Are you on top of it? Do you need to spend more time on Social Media? Are you maximising it to its full potential?

Let me know! You can always email me rebecca@popfizzle.com.au

To hashtag or not to hashtag?

So I see that Facebook has introduced Hashtags…welcome to the millennium I say ๐Ÿ™‚ But so many people aren’t familiar with what a hashtag is. Are you?

I am familiar with them, obviously. I learnt the art of hashtagging when I began using twitter sometime ago. Then Instagram became available and they allowed the option of using hashtags. Now facebook has finally started! But a lot of you may have already jumped on the bandwagon, not knowing that the full benefits of hashtagging wont be available till 20th June…BUT as people are impatient, they have begun! Like any trend, correct?

But what is Hashtagging? What do you use it for? Well, according to Wikipedia, their definition is;

A hashtag is a word or a phrase prefixed with the symbol #.It is a form of metadata tag. Short messages on microblogging social networking services such as Twitter, Tout, identi.ca, Tumblr, Instagram, Flickr, Google+ or Facebook may be tagged by putting “#” before important words, as in:

#Wikipedia is an #encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

Hashtags provide a means of grouping such messages, since one can search for theย  hash tag and get the set of messages that contain it.

Now I think there is a fair bit of ‘IT’ ‘Tech’ jargon in there, except for the last sentence, that makes sense to me. you?

So lets get some basics. Hashtagging from a business point of view is a vital tool. Want to get more exposure? Then this is it! If I want to write a status update for example: I am writing a blog on hashtagging #socialmedia #facebook #hashtagging

The words that follow the ‘#’ symbol will be in blue, now if you click on that highlighted word, it will show you all the posts that have used the same words, hence linking similar categories together, helping your business get more exposure. Follow?

Now from a personal point of view, hashtagging on my personal Facebook page, why would I bother? Really? My page is private, I like to keep it that way, how many people have open Facebook accounts? So please tell me why you would want to hash tag in your personal status allowing complete strangers to see your status. You may as well open your page to the public…really.

I could go on and on about my opinions in this, but I don’t want to bore you. You now know a basic understanding of what hashtagging does and when I believe is a useful tool and not a useful tool.

Till the next blog ๐Ÿ™‚

End of a decade…

birthdaySo many things happen in a decade, no matter what decade of your life it is, 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, etc etc. But this is my turn to discuss decades, and not Social Media, as today, its all about me ๐Ÿ™‚ How often do we ever take ‘me’ time and make it all about me? To be honest though, my me time today has consisted of work, cleaning the house, mowing the lawns etc etc. You see i am 30 tomorrow, and i am having a party on Saturday so the family starts arriving tomorrow, so you make the extra special effort to make your house look un-lived in and immaculate…as long as it lasts till there arrival i say ๐Ÿ™‚

So much happened in this decade for me. I ceased my solo travels, met my husband Mr Popfizzle, moved to a place i didnt even know exisited on this earth, started a new love for living on the land, learnt how to drive a tractor, muster cattle, live on a farm, had two children (Miss C & Mr H), started my business and made so many amazing memories with people who mean so much to me, i just want to squeeze them all so much and tell them how much they mean to me. Because without the footprints they have left with me, my road may not have been so memorable and enjoyable. Some people may have left my side, but they need to know, i think about them all the time, no matter the reasons why you left, or where you are.

I am so lucky for the love of my sister, she is about to become a mother and i couldn’t be prouder of her, her husband is so supportive and amazing, they will make wonderful parents. My sister is one of those people who has achieved so much in life, is gracious in her personality and will pull something from our childhood at a random time and have me in stitches. We are sisters, but our bond is stronger than ever before i believe, and now as she takes a turn down parenthood lane, i can not wait to share this next part of her life with her and her husband.

Now my sister in law…everyone has one, like them or not, i have several, but this one, my brothers wife, she is a gem. She has become my best friend. My brother(who is such a calming person – i think we have a happy medium as im 100miles an hour and get it done and he is the complete opposite) is so lucky to have her by his side, and they have wonderful children, she is my Mr Google, you know, something is wrong with my kids, i ring her. Im so lucky to have her in my life. She means more to me than she will ever know.

My girlfriends, new and old, they are the glue that holds it all together aren’t they. I hope they know that they are my spirit level….they make me balance out so many things in life!

My husband…he is the one. It and a bit. I cant wait for several decades to come with him.

My birthday wish…i mean, i could wish for no family conflict, as lets face it, when everyone gets together under one roof its hard work, i could wish for no headaches from wines that will be consumed, i could wish for me to wake up tomorrow and slip back into those jeans like it was 1999, but in reality, you have to roll with the punches, thats life. There will be headaches, conflict, drama drama drama, and i dont even know where those jeans would be from 1999. My wish will be for everyone that i have ever made a footprint in their life, that they are safe..that you close your eyes and think of our favourite time we have had together, as i know ill think of all of you and how you made me laugh and smile.

Happy Birthday to me….see you all for the next decade.

Social Media – Is it my new local paper?

youve got mailexciting news

Do you still read newspapers? Is this a ‘dinosaur’ thing of the past now? Or you love the ink stained finger tips you get from turning the pages and enjoying your coffee at the table reading whats the news in today’s society? Really….who has time for this? I cant even remember when I last brought a magazine, let alone a newspaper.

I recently found out some saddened news through facebook, it was there right in front of me before it has made the news or the newspapers. By the time i saw it on Sunrise (morning news) it wasn’t the latest story to me. Just made me piece the puzzle together and ponder the news longer.

As a business, Social Media is a vital tool for your resources, its quick and easy to get your message across, but is it a vital tool for personal use? When will my Miss C be looking at me with her bountiful blue eyes asking for a facebook account? Lets bear in mind she will be 3 next month. She knows how to spell her name, knows her counting, alphabet, phone number, but yesterday she blew me away. The latest phase is to browse a store with mum and run her hands through the clothing, as if she is browsing the colours or something, goodness knows, she probably is counting the threads on the clothing as she knows more than i do at times. Then she loves to be involved in the counter transaction, yesterday we were purchasing in a sporting store, she must notice the clothing now that it is such a store, asked me if the pictures of the people on the wall were my exercising friends, WOW! How did you know what store this was? So observant! Then we stand near the register, (my husband doesn’t read my blogs right???) make the transaction, the lady asks for my email address to enter a draw, sure, as long as its not another store card. I start with the name, then i get to the ‘@’ and follow with bigpond and Miss C pipes up, .com.auย ย ย ย ย  ?????? I smiled and paused and suddenly thought, what is this? Now you know what an email address is? I continues to go over this the rest of the day, my email address, esp my personal one, is not something i am publicy saying anymore, lets face it, neither is your home phone number. So how does she know this?

It just made me think, this is her world right? Emails, Social Media, Blogging, will she miss the ‘old’ school newspapers and magazines? Will a magazine subscription for her be too dinosaur and ‘un cool’. This is the world we live in now, society rules the trends, the changes and the phases.

If you cant keep up, whats happens?

Happy New Year

happy new yearWhat does new years mean to you? I can honestly say New Years for me has changed dramatically over the years. In my late teens it was all about my girlfriends and the best place to be, what time could we stay up till, in my early twenties it was about where i saw it in Overseas for a few years, then something happened…New years started to fizzle out??? I all of sudden couldn’t be in the ‘hub’ for New Years, I went from champagne to beer, Stilettos to flats, flats to havianas. Then I started a family and new years is amazing if you make it to 9pm to do new years for the kids; 12pm doesn’t even come close! How times have changed!

New years for me does get me all sentimental, I use to make a new years resolution and of course like many break it in the first week or even day, I will loose weight, I will start running, I will…well….break my resolution! But now, I reflect on the year, shed a tear at how much Miss C is so so so amazing and growing into such a beautiful little girl, how Mr H has grown way too quickly for my liking and still melts my heart with his gorgeous grin, how I started my business from scratch and now am amazed at what I am achieving (lets face it though, Fail is not in my vocabulary!) how I have commenced training to run a Marathon in 2013, how everyday I love my husband more and more and how I am so fortunate to have recently renovated our lovely house and made it a home. Clearly this could be tainted by the fact that we have had a HUGE restless night with both children and I even trekked into town this morning to get a coffee, as instant was not going to cut it, but, all in all, I am one lucky lady to have my loving husband in my life, who is an amazing support for myself and our children, and my family, I cant forget them!

I have an amazing support from my family; our family. My in-law family and immediate family, without them all I wouldn’t be able to achieve what I do. Most of this support is like phone a friend, but its all relevant, its how we survive. I miss so many of my family members all the time, Especially now I have kids, I want them to be involved in our life so much. I can never leave my brother or my sister without knowing when i will see them again, it makes the distance that little bit easier. Now unfortunately though Miss C shares my heartache with missing her uncles and aunties. But we survive right, we have to, life goes on and we are all busy and before we know it, we are here on New Years getting all sentimental about the year we had and what dreams and aspirations we have for the new year.

To my beautiful friends, you know who you are. You have supported me this year through everything and without your constant laughs, coffee dates, and endless text messaging, as lets face it, we don’t have time anymore to sit on the phone and catch up; Im not really sure where I would be…maybe I would still be in my PJs with my scrunchie in from 1990?? You definitely bring the best out in me ๐Ÿ™‚

So here is to what I know will be a fabulous and exciting 2013! I set my goals early and they will be accomplished and you will hear all about them ๐Ÿ™‚ I look forward to helping your business grow in 2013 in whatever Social Media path you choose and can not wait to see what surprises 2013 holds for us. Lets face it, life is dull without surprises!

Happy New Year Everyone!
